Convention 2010: Build a Bear

Stampin' Up! has a partnership with Sizzix and Build A Bear Workshop.  Check out this adorable paper dollhouse, which was one of the displays at Convention 2010!

I think my favorite room was the bedroom set.  I just adore the Greenhouse Gala bedding and the tiny pillows made with 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon!

Convention 2010: Halloween Projects (Fri, 7/23)

The Friday morning stamping presentation by Brent Steele was all about Halloween! Check out these luminaries and pumpkins that were made with the Spooky Things Decor Elements from the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog (available on September 1).

Next, Brent made a skeleton chain using the Newsprint Designer Series Paper.  Wouldn't this look great draped from your fireplace mantel?

More cute Halloween decorations!  This is part of a 31 day countdown ... there is one little trinket for each day leading up to Halloween night.  The striped box labeled number 4 was made with the Candy Wrapper Bigz L Die from the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog.

And of course, we can't have a proper Halloween party without hand stamped invitations ... right?

Stay tuned for more Convention updates!

Convention 2010: Thursday, 7/22

My coverage of the Stampin' Up! 2010 Convention continues!

Thursday morning kicked off with the opening session!  Can you just imagine the excitement and energy that is generated by a room packed with 2,800 cheering demonstrators plus all of the employees from the Stampin' Up! home office?  It was amazing!

Our CEO, Shelli Gardner, announced a limited-time Hostess Promotion, where hostesses who hold a qualifying workshop will receive an additional $25 in hostess dollars!!  For example, if you hold a $350 workshop, you will receive an exclusive Level 2 hostess stamp set AND $65 in hostess dollars that you can spend on anything you want in the catalog!  This promotion starts today and only will run through August.  So if you want to take advantage of this great deal ... contact me today to book a workshop!

My pictures during the first general session turned out dark and grainy because I had a tall person sitting directly in front of me.  I just raised my camera above my head, pushed the button, and hoped for the best!  When you're short like me ... you always try your hardest to get a good seat, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.  :)

Now for the stamping presentation of the day ... On the inside of this flower card is a 3x3 envelope with the envelope flap cut off.  Tucked inside the envelope is a little 3x3 note card!  Your recipient can send this card to another person simply by removing your note and tucking a new note inside the 3x3 envelope. I love this idea of recycling!

The "Wish Big" sentiment is from the Word Play stamp set in the 2010-11 Idea Book and Catalog. The border on the right hand side of the card was created using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch (119275, $15.95).  The chipboard was dyed using Rich Razzleberry Craft ink and a Sponge Dauber ... and Dazzling Diamonds glitter was used to make the center of the flower sparkle!

The next project was a darling little box made from a sheet of 12x12 cardstock.  Inside the box were cupcake picks and holders ... add a package of cake mix and you have a wonderful, inexpensive gift!

This last project involved turning a recordable sound card into a framed scrapbook page!  The recordable sound cards and the Filled with Love stamp set will be available for purchase on September 1.

After lunch, we headed off to classes!  My favorite class of the day was the Make & Takes.  It was fun to get some stamping done with the girls, but there was not enough time to finish making all of my projects.  (I will post photos when they are complete.)

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and then headed back to the Salt Palace Convention Center for the annual Awards Night! Angie Kennedy Juda, who is one of my uplines, was honored several times for sales and recruiting, including placing #7 for the Demonstrator of the Year award!  We cheered and clapped as loudly as we could ... I just hope she was able to hear us when she was on stage!

Needless to say, we were pretty wiped out after the awards ceremony, so we didn't stay for the entertainment after the awards were given.  Sally and I relaxed in our hotel room beds and we chatted for a long time... until we fell asleep.

Stay tuned for more highlights from my trip!

Convention 2010: Flower Power Party (Wed, 7/21)

Hi everyone!  I'm back from Convention 2010!

I flew into Salt Lake City on Wednesday, July 21.  Dinh - who was one of my roommates from college - picked me up from the airport!  I was so excited to see her because we don't get to visit very often.  We went out for a sushi lunch and tried sablefish nigiri for the first time - - and it was amazing!  Dinh is not a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, but I took her to the public gathering area for a few minutes just so she could experience a little bit of the stamping craziness (and maybe she will join us next year, hee hee).

Later in the afternoon when the rest of the members of my team arrived, we picked up our bags with our free stamp sets!  The design of the Convention bag is different every year - this year we received an orange polka-dot messenger bag with tons of handy pockets for organization.  The outside of the bag is made of vinyl so it is easy to wipe clean!

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I am part of the Sparkly Stampers team which is based in Kansas.  My upline Sally used to live here in California, but she moved to Kansas in 2007.  So everyone she has recruited since 2007 lives in Kansas and I finally got to meet almost everyone in person for the first time!

Sally made us adorable team T-shirts using My Digital Studio and iron-on transfers.  She also spoiled us with matching Vera Bradley floral tote bags and notebooks, In Color card stock, antique brads, and the new rhinestone jewels!

Wednesday night was the Flower Power Party!  I watched product demonstrations and walked through aisle after aisle of project displays. I felt so inspired and motivated after seeing so many beautiful things!

Paisley Prints is a stamp set that will be available for purchase on September 1.  This versatile set works for so many occasions - the images consist of a Christmas tree, a leaf, a pumpkin, a large heart, and a tiny heart!

We also met up with other members of Team Chic 'N Scratch, which I am also a part of!  Angie gave us all these super cute team gifts, as well as a gift certificate for Stampin' Up! product!

At the Flower Power party, I met Shelli Gardner, the CEO of Stampin' Up! She congratulated me on attending my first convention and asked, "So what do you think of all these nutty people?"  To which I replied, "Well, I'm just as nutty as everyone else here!"  We laughed and then smiled for this picture.

What a wonderful day!  Keep coming back this week for more Convention photos and stories!

2010 Convention Roommate Gift

Please note: I wrote this post in advance!  I will not have access to my computer while at Convention.  If you have questions for me, please leave me a message and I will respond when I am back home.

**********************************************************************************
It's a Stampin' Up! tradition to give your Convention roommate a little handmade gift.  Here is the gift I made for my roomie, Sally Jercha!

I found the tin in the $1 bins at Target and it is the perfect size for storing the 1/8" ribbons!  (In my local Target, the dollar bins are located at the front of the store.)

To decorate the tin, first I wrapped a band of Concord Crush card stock and Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper around the tin and adhered it using Sticky Strip.  The "just for you" sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.

Next, I punched out and adhered a 2-3/8" Scallop Circle from Concord Crush card stock and a 1-3/4" Circle from the Greenhouse Gala DSP.

Finally, I stamped a butterfly from the Butterfly Prints stamp set using Concord Crush ink on Very Vanilla card stock and punched it out with the coordinating Butterfly punch.  I adhered it to the DSP circle and voila!  The project was complete!

2010 Convention Swap Cards

Before I leave, I want to share some pictures of the swap cards I made!

The first card front is for the "Swap in Your Jammies" event tomorrow night.  I'm really looking forward to this event.  Can you just imagine 50 ladies hanging out in the hotel lobby while wearing their pajamas?!

I used the Butterfly Prints stamp set, which is one of my favorite new sets from the 2010-11 Idea Book and Catalog!

The second card is one I made for general swapping.  I made 50 of these!

Concord Crush is one my favorite new colors.  I just love that it is such a deep, dark purple!  I used the brand new Elegant Lines embossing folder for the Big Shot and the sentiment is from the new Word Play stamp set.

Did you notice the tiny little pearl?  It's one of the new self-adhesive Basic Pearls Jewel Accents pieces.  I love that you get 150 pearls per package; 50 each of 3 sizes (2 mm, 3 mm, and 5 mm) and three 2-5/8" strips of connected pearls - perfect for borders! - for just $4.95!

The last card uses the Upsy Daisy rubber stamp set and the Top Note die for the Big Shot.  You might recognize this design because I used it in my "Upsy Daisy" class last month!

P.S. Some of the photos show a full card, but the ones I'm taking with me to swap are just card fronts.  I like to keep a full card of everything I design, just in case I want to make more of them later!

Convention 2010 starts TOMORROW!

Hi everyone!  I'm leaving tomorrow morning for the 2010 Stampin' Up! convention in Salt Lake City!  If you have any questions for me, be sure to contact me today.  Otherwise, I will respond to your message when I return.

Be sure to check back next week for photos and blog entries about Convention!
