Tips on Making Your Holiday Cards

When you are designing your Holiday cards this year, you can manage your costs by minimizing the number of layers and embellishments used.  Keep in mind that adding layers adds cost not only in terms of card stock, but also in the amount of adhesive used.

Some things to note about these designs:

• I used a 2" piece of Sleigh Bells ribbon (folded in half) as an accent.  A roll of this ribbon contains approximately 10 yards, so I can make 180 cards with just a single roll!  Cost per card: $7.95 / 180 cards = $0.04 per card.
  
• I used two Stampin' Dimensionals behind the Old Olive circle.  A package contains 300 dimensionals, so I can make 150 cards with a single package.  Cost per card: $3.95 / 150 cards = $0.03 per card.

The technique I used to draw attention to the sleigh portion of the image is called Spotlighting.  Here are the directions for this technique:

1. Stamp the entire Santa and reindeer image in Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla card stock. 
2. Stamp only the sleigh portion of the image using Real Red ink on a scrap piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  Punch out the stamped sleigh image using a 1-1/4" circle punch.
3. Punch out a 1-3/8" Old Olive circle.
4. Adhere the 1-1/4" stamped circle onto the 1-3/8" Old Olive circle.
5. Add Stampin' Dimensionals behind the Old Olive Circle.  Line up over the Soft Suede image.
